Our Fall Bucket List

October. HOW. Let me first start off by saying this:

Now that that’s out of the way, I figured I was past due on putting pen to paper and jotting down everything we want to do this fall, which really is such a fun time of year. It’s always even more magical experiencing it through the 4 little blue eyes that live in this house, who just simply can’t believe there’s a holiday all about candy.
Here are some of the things that we’ve checked off, or are hoping to, in the coming weeks.

1. Make pumpkin muffins. We used two different recipes, one of which was a healthier variety for the boys to eat for their breakfast before school. They have lots of good stuff like Greek yogurt, granola, and pumpkin, and we chose to sprinkle them with flax seed and chia seeds along with the granola. We also made these, which are more like dessert with their chocolate chips, but oh-so-good.

2. Decorate the front porch with mums. Such a pretty little stoop to come home to. Don't mind the spilled coffee on my shoes. Story of my life.

3. Watch Hocus Pocus. Oskar wasn’t into it last year, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed he’ll love it as much as I do this time around.

4. Make apple crisp. And if we’re really rocking this list, go apple picking to make said apple crisp. The boys have no attention span for this whatsoever, so we’ll see…

5. Pick up some apple cider doughnuts from a bakery for a weekend morning breakfast.

6. Kick off our soup-Sunday tradition. We’ve only made clam chowder and white chicken chili so far, so I really need to hop to it and plan out everything else we want to make this October/November. Some past favorites include loaded baked potato soup and pumpkin tomato soup that we serve with grilled cheese.

7. Roast s’mores in the fireplace.

8. Go on a leaf scavenger hunt that doesn’t end in me contracting poison ivy. Why yes, you ask…I sure did pick poison ivy, put it in a bag to bring it home, glue it to construction paper and proudly display it on the refrigerator last year. The next morning my hands, wrists, and arms were covered. Matt made me save that little art project in the baby book once the leaves were dried out.

9. Make a fall sangria. This recipe looks so good.

10. Host our annual Halloween party with pumpkin painting, lots of treats, and Room on the Broom movie viewing action. I just love this little tradition we’ve fallen into, mainly because of the sweet pictures and little faces we get to look back on every year to see just how much all the kids have grown. I mean, just look…

11. Go to as many hayrides as we can. We have three local farms near us that have the cutest rides set up to go to the pumpkin patch, where there are also lots of activities for kids to run around and do while the adults sip coffee or apple cider. Yes. Please.

12. Carve pumpkins with the kiddos. August says he wants a Batman pumpkin (shocker), and Oskar’s going the traditional route with a toothy jack-o-lantern.

13. Take Oskar costume shopping, 1:1. He takes his time with everything, and you can’t rush this kid to make a decision as important as what he’s going to dress up as. Hoping we can get away for a little date to stroll the aisles, try on some different options, and have him excitedly pick out just the right one.

14. Make Halloween slime. While slime making is a favorite around here, really upping the ante with the Halloween edition by adding green glitter glue, googly eyes, and plastic flies.

15. And last but not least, I’m still on the fence here, but really thinking that Oskar would love a haunted house. We’re going to start off with a haunted trail walk that our township hosts, then go from there. He rode a haunted house ride at an amusement park this summer and couldn’t stop talking about it.

And there you have it. Just about all we could possibly squeeze into a month, but we’re going for it. Let me know if there’s anything else you’ve added to your list, or any fun traditions you look forward to!
